In a concerted effort to enhance the healthcare system in Kogi State, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo conducted a working visit to the Obuburu Primary Healthcare Centre in Adavi Local Government Area on June 9, 2025. This facility is one of the 88 impact projects initiated earlier this year and is currently undergoing an upgrade to a Level 2 facility.
Following his visit, Governor Ododo expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the project, commending Hon. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, the Commissioner for Health, and Dr. Mu’azu Musa Omeiza, Executive Director of the Kogi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (KSPHCDA), for their unwavering dedication. He emphasized that this visit underscores his administration’s commitment to advancing healthcare development and ensuring the delivery of quality services. The governor also urged contractors to prioritize quality, adhere to project specifications, and ensure timely completion.
During the event, Dr. Muazu Musa Omeiza highlighted that the “88 PHCs” project is a World Bank-supported initiative aimed at upgrading and revitalizing 88 Primary Healthcare Centers across the state, with an investment exceeding N7 billion. This initiative is designed to improve healthcare delivery and contribute to the achievement of universal health coverage.
In addition to the 88 PHCs, the state is also upgrading seven facilities under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), enhancing 21 PHCs through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and rehabilitating eight PHCs with support from UNICEF and the Global Fund. These initiatives collectively demonstrate the administration’s steadfast commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and services.
