The Kogi State Government has reiterated its steadfast dedication to addressing insecurity and has called upon citizens, media representatives, and political figures to refrain from inciting fear or politicising the state’s security challenges.
In a statement issued to the press by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, in Lokoja on Tuesday, the government highlighted its ongoing, effective efforts to combat criminal activities, particularly kidnapping, within the state.
“These achievements are not coincidental,” the statement emphasised. “They stem from meticulously planned strategies and robust institutional collaborations aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of every resident of Kogi State.”

While expressing sympathy for families affected by recent incidents, the government cautioned against the use of such events to disseminate misinformation or incite panic. “Misinformation and alarmist narratives only serve to embolden criminals and demoralise communities. We urge opinion leaders and the media to collaborate with us in fostering a secure environment.”
The government also condemned what it termed “the politicisation of insecurity by certain opportunistic politicians,” warning that such actions undermine the collective effort to combat crime. “Those who offer remedies with side effects more detrimental than the ailments should not raise unfounded alarms when effective solutions are implemented,” the statement asserted.

According to reliable intelligence, the increase in security threats in certain areas of Kogi is attributed to regional dynamics, particularly as intensified security operations in the Northeast and Northwest have prompted criminal elements to migrate toward the North Central region, including Kogi.
Despite these challenges, the government emphasised its commitment to deploying advanced security infrastructure, enhancing intelligence gathering, and promoting community engagement. “Our mission is not to instil fear but to inspire hope,” the statement concluded.
